[Exterior shot of the ocean where a rowboat sits on the surf's edge.]

[Exterior shot of the beach as five men walk up a sand dune.]

[Exterior shot of the ocean where Felipe and a blond-haired boy climb around on some rocks by the water's edge.]

Boy
You know, Felipe, (something I couldn't catch)

[Felipe and the boy run in the surf, bending down and splashing water at each other.  Then they run up a sandy hill.]

Boy
One of these days I'm going to have my own horse.

[Exterior shot of the countryside as Felipe's horse waits by some rocks.  Felipe and the boy come up to the horse.]

Boy
Boy, Felipe, that was a lot of fun.

[Exterior shot of the countryside as Felipe and the boy ride on Felipe's horse.  Felipe slows his horse as Mendoza rides his horse out from behind a tree.]

Boy
Look, it's Sergeant Mendoza!

Mendoza
Hola, muchachos.

Boy
Hola, Sergeant.  How was the trip?

Mendoza
Oh. . .long.  Hot.  And bumpy.  I would much rather be at the beach swimming with you.

Boy
And I would rather be riding.  Felipe is going to teach me how.  And then maybe I'll get to see some of the world.  Even go to Santa Paula.

Mendoza
Oh, si, si.  Then maybe perhaps the Alcalde will let you run some errands for him.  You know, he sends me all the way to Santa Paula to buy some new silk neckties.

[Felipe moves his right hand across his chest then points twice to his right then points at Mendoza.]

Mendoza
Si, si, Felipe, I know.  He's the Alcalde.  I am the sergeant.  If it's new neckties he wants, it's new neckties he's going to get. [He urges his horse forward.] Adios, muchachos.

Boy
Adios, Sergeant.

[Felipe and the boy ride off in the opposite direction.]

Mendoza
Hasta luego.

[Felipe and the boy ride out from behind the tree and then Felipe brings his horse to a halt.]

Boy [peeking out from behind Felipe]
What?  What is it?

[Felipe taps the boy on the arm then points forward.]

[Shot from Felipe and the boy's point of view of smoke rising out from behind a rock.]

[Exterior shot of the countryside as Felipe leads his horse to the top of a ridge.  The boy follows.  They stop behind a cactus.]

[Exterior shot of a camp where five men are setting up things.]

Boy [whispering]
Pirates.  Scum of the earth.  We can take them, Felipe.

[Felipe turns and looks at the boy like he is crazy.  He points to the boy then himself then at the pirates then crooks his right index finger as he holds up his hand.  Then he flattens his hand.]

Boy
I know they've got swords and guns.  But we've got surprise.  We sneak up on them and cut their throats.

[Felipe smiles nervously and nods then points at the boy then himself again.  At the camp, one of the pirates pours water on a campfire.]

Boy
Five pirates, Felipe.  And I'm going to kill them all.

[Felipe looks at the boy incredulously.]

*****COMMERCIAL BREAK*****

[Exterior shot of the pirate camp.]

Pirate #1
Let's get moving.

[Exterior shot of the countryside as Felipe points at the boy then himself.  Then he points his right then runs his index fingers over his upper lip then puffs out his chest.]

Boy
Sergeant Mendoza?  You think he can handle all those pirates?

[Felipe reaches down and mimics drawing out a sword.]

Boy
You're right.  At least he's got a sword.

[Exterior shot of the countryside as Mendoza rides his horse at a leisurely pace.  At the top of ridge, Felipe sits astride his horse at the boy stands to his right.  They both wave their arms in the air.]

Boy
Sergeant!

[Mendoza comes to a halt below them.]

Mendoza
Hola, amigos.

Boy
Pirates!  Back there!

[He turns and points behind himself and Felipe.]

Mendoza
Pirates?  It's impossible!

Boy
We saw them!  Five pirates!

Mendoza
Five?  Well, that's clearly a job for the garrison.

Boy
But they'll get away if we don't attack now!

[Mendoza shakes his head.]

Boy
You're not. . .afraid, are you, Sergeant?

[Felipe smiles knowingly.]

Mendoza
Afraid?  Me? Oh, no, no. . .  It's just that. . .

Boy
You are.  You're afraid.

Mendoza [sitting up straighter on his horse]
Alert the garrison to send out a patrol to mop up after I am finished here.

Boy
Then you're going to attack?

Mendoza
Well, uh. . .  Let's just say I'm going to evaluate the situation.  Better tell the Alcalde to make it two patrols.

[The boy turns and starts running to his right.  Felipe turns his horse then waves at Mendoza then follows after the boy.]

[Exterior shot of the countryside as Mendoza rides up to the top of a ridge.]

Mendoza
Madre de Dios. . .

[Exterior shot of the countryside as Felipe and the boy ride down a hillside.  The horse whinnies then Felipe brings it to a halt.  Felipe and the boy get off the horse.  Felipe bends down and puts his hand on the horse's front left leg then pats it.  He straightens up then pats the horse's neck.]

Boy
What's the matter?

[Felipe points to the horse's leg then hold out his hands, palm up.  He then puts his left hand on the boy's right shoulder then points with his left hand to his left then uses both hands to makes a pulling motion.]

Boy
Okay.  You wait here.  I'll go for help.

[The boy runs off to his right.  Felipe waits until the boy is gone then gets back up on the horse and rides off to his right.]

[Exterior shot of the cuartel as four lancers on horseback ride through the cuartel gates.]

Lancers
Hyah!  Hyah!

[Exterior shot of the countryside as the four lancers ride past some trees.]

[Exterior shot of the pirate camp as Pirate #1 draws out his sword and points at the ground with it as a second pirate sits to his right and looks at the ground.]

Pirate #1
This is the pueblo de Los Angeles. . .

[Mendoza sneaks down the hillside above the pirate camp.]

Pirate #1 [off camera as Mendoza continues to sneak down the hillside]
This is our camp here.

[Mendoza stops behind a bush.]

Pirate #1 [pointing at the ground with his sword]
The treasure lies at least another four leagues from here.  I figure it will take us a good day to get there.

[The four lancers sneak up behind Mendoza.]

Mendoza [turning to look at the lancers]
Sepulveda, take two lancers and go across the arroyo.  We'll give you the signal.

Sepulveda [turning away]
Okay.

[A sword is placed against Mendoza's throat and he looks up to his left.  Two pirates, one with an eye patch and one with a black hat, stand above him.]

Eye Patch Pirate
Will you now?

Lancers
Uh-oh.  I think we're in trouble.

[Closeup shot of Pirate #1.]

Pirate #1
Who put you on our trail?

[Exterior shot of the pirate camp where Mendoza and the four lancers are kneeling on the ground with their hands behind their heads.  The other four pirates surround them as they face Pirate #1.]

Mendoza
A couple of boys saw you.

Eye Patch Pirate [holding up his hands]
How would you like your skull crushed like a coconut?

Pirate #1
What did these boys look like?

Mendoza
Just boys.  Brown hair. . .  Yellow hair. . .

Eye Patch Pirate
Let's just cut their throats and be done with it.

Pirate #1
That's enough out of you.

Zorro [as he comes into the pirate camp, holding out his whip]
Enough, indeed!

Pirate #1 [turning around]
What?

Mendoza [excitedly]
Zorro!  Lancers!

[Zorro cracks his whip and coils it around Pirate #1's left ankle.]

Pirate #1
Who the blazes are you?

[Zorro yanks on his whip and Pirate #1 falls on his back, knocking down Mendoza and two other lancers.  One of the lancers grabs a musket and used it to defend himself against one of the pirates.  Pirate #1 gets to his feet.  Zorro punches two pirates that come at him then turns around, unsheathing his saver.  Pirate #1 comes at him, wildly brandishing a sword.  Zorro backs away.  Pirate #1 lunges at Zorro, who spins out of the way easily.  Three of the lancers fight off pirates as Mendoza lies face down on the ground.]

Pirate #1
By your mask, you're a bandit.  By your saber, you're a fool!  Hyah!

[He lunges at Zorro again.  Zorro jumps out of the way.  Pirate #1 hacks instead the post holding up a piece of canvas and it falls on Mendoza.  Zorro spins out of the way.]

Zorro
You're entitled to your opinion, but I'm afraid you've missed the point.

[He kicks Pirate #1 in the bottom then turns around as another pirate comes at him from behind.  Zorro kicks him and the pirate falls onto his back.  Pirate #1 comes at Zorro with his sword.]

Pirate #1
Ahhh!

[Zorro uses his saber to block Pirate #1's sword then trips him.  Pirate #1 somersaults then lands on his back.]

Pirate #1
Ugh!

[The four lancers continue to fight the other pirates.]

Voice
I'll get this one here.

[Pirate #1 shakes his head as he come to.  Zorro points the tip of his saber at Pirate #1's chest.]

Zorro
Call them off.

[He presses his saber point a little harder as Pirate #1 hesitates.]

Pirate #1
Rough weather ahead, mates.  Now make for a safe port.

[The other pirates have the lancers at their mercy and stare incredulously at Pirate #1 but then run off.]

Pirates
Let's get out of here!  Big Jim says we must go.  Come on!  Come on!

[The pirates ride off on horseback.]

Pirates
Hyah!  Hyah!

[Mendoza gets up and walks over to Zorro with a big smile on his face.  Zorro still has his saber point on Big Jim's chest.]

[Exterior shot of the pueblo as Mendoza and the lancers escort a manacled Big Jim toward the cuartel.]

Lancers
Ah, the Alcalde's going to be happy to see you back here.

[The blond-haired boy follows sneakily behind the lancers.]

de Soto [stepping out from behind the cuartel gate]
Just one, Sergeant?

[Mendoza stops and turns to face de Soto.]

Mendoza
Si, mi Alcalde.  But we had to fight for our very lives.  Not even Zorro would. . .

de Soto
Zorro?  He was there with them?

Mendoza
Well, not. . .not exactly.

Big Jim [lifting his manacled hands]
Without that brigand in black, do you think you'd have Jim Jarrett in chains?

Boy [popping out of the crowd gathered around the cuartel gate]
He's a pirate!  Hang him!

[People murmur excitedly.  De Soto raises an eyebrow as he looks at the boy.  Big Jim also stares at the boy who then hides behind a woman.]

de Soto
Jim Jarrett?  In the flesh?

Big Jim
Captain Jarrett to you, barnacle worm!

[Mendoza looks at de Soto then Big Jim nervously.]

de Soto
Prepare the gallows, Sergeant.

Mendoza
But. . .  But, Alcalde, what about the trial?

de Soto
This man has a price on his head for plundering ship from Cuba to the Yucatan, not to mention the murder of a merchant captain in Florida.

Big Jim
I never killed that man.

de Soto [chuckling]
Yes, well, the Spanish Crown has placed a reward on your head.  A very sizable reward.  Dead. . .or alive.  And dead is so much more convenient.  Take him away.

[Two of the lancers lead Big Jim into the cuartel but Big Jim spins back around, bringing the lancers with him.]

Big Jim
I'll never hang.  My men won't let me.

de Soto [laughing]
Your rabble against my lancers?

Big Jim
For the treasure of Port-au-Prince, they'd go against the Spanish Armada.

de Soto [intrigued]
Take him way.

[Mendoza waves at the lancers who lead Big Jim into the cuartel.  The townspeople come up to the gates, talking excitedly.  De Soto turns away, looking thoughtful.]

[Interior shot of the cuartel jail as Big Jim paces in his cell.  De Soto comes up to the cell door.]

de Soto
Captain Jarrett, the treasure of Port-au-Prince belongs to the King of Spain.

Big Jim
His conquistadors stole it from the Indians tribes down south.

de Soto
Yes, well, your political misperceptions aside, if I were to know where that treasure was, it would add a certain, uh, cachet to my name back in Madrid.  So. . .you tell me where it is and you shall go free.

Big Jim
My mates will set me free.

de Soto [laughing]
Captain, this jail is heavily guarded. . .

[Mendoza comes into the jail and walks up to de Soto.]

Mendoza
Alcalde, the pirates. . .  A patrol just saw them headed this way.

de Soto
Really? [He looks at Big Jim.] Sergeant, bring up the prison wagon.  We'll move Captain Jarrett to a place where his ‘mates' will never find him.

Mendoza [saluting]
Imediento, Alcalde.

[He runs out of the jail.  De Soto chuckles evilly then turns and follows Mendoza.  Big Jim glares after him.]

[Exterior night shot of the de la Vega hacienda.]

Diego [off camera]
Eminent domain, in the colonies?

de Soto [off camera]
Absolutely.

[Interior shot of the de la Vega hacienda foyer where Diego and Don Alejandro face de Soto, Mendoza, and Big Jim, who is flanked by two lancers.  Big Jim's hands are manacled in front of him.]

Diego
This is our home.  It's not a jail.

de Soto
Exactly.  You see, it's perfect to keep him out of his shipmates's reach until I can move him to San Diego.  Hmm. Mendoza. . .

Mendoza
Si.

de Soto
Make the hacienda secure.

[Mendoza salutes then turns and walks away.]

Don Alejandro [angrily]
You have guards posted outside?

de Soto
Of course.

Don Alejandro
Then I doubt that these manacles are necessary.

de Soto
Don Alejandro, this man is a murderer.

Don Alejandro
I heard what you said.  But he still has to eat, doesn't he?  And it just so happens we're about to sit down to dinner.

[He looks over at Diego, who nods.]

de Soto [incredulously]
Oh. . .you're not going to feed him?  He's an animal.

Diego [looking over at Don Alejandro]
You're sure about this?

Don Alejandro [looking over at Big Jim]
Captain Jarrett, in our home we treat people with dignity, sir.  I trust you'll return the favor and behave accordingly.

Big Jim
That I will, sir. You have my word of honor.

Don Alejandro [smiling and patting Big Jim's shoulder]
Good.  Now you either unchain this man or take him back to your jail and treat him as you like.

de Soto
Private, your pistol.

[One of the lancers hands de Soto a pistol.]

de Soto [moving back and holding out the pistol]
Unchain him. [The lancers undo Big Jim's manacles.] Both of you wait outside.

[The two lancers leave.  A bell rings off camera.]

Diego
Captain Jarrett, dinner is served.

[Diego lead Big Jim to their left.  Don Alejandro starts to follow but stops and turns to face de Soto.]

Don Alejandro
Señor Alcalde, you're also welcome.

[Don Alejandro indicates the direction Diego and Big Jim took.  De Soto goes off that way and Don Alejandro follows.  Knocking is heard off camera.]

Victoria [off camera]
Sergeant Mendoza. . .

[Interior shot of de Soto's office as Mendoza stands on the other side of a green door, looking through its barred window.  More knocking is heard.  Mendoza opens the door and steps into the office.]

Victoria [off camera]
Sergeant Mendoza, I brought you some fresh tamales from the tavern.

[Mendoza smiles as he walks across the office.  He opens the front door and Victoria stands there, looking grim-faced.]

Mendoza [his smile disappearing]
Señorita Victoria, what is wrong?

[The pirate with the black hat cocks his pistol as he comes up behind Victoria.  Eye Patch Pirate appear at her right.]

Black Hat Pirate
Nothing wrong, mate.

[Eye Patch Pirate pushes past Victoria and into Mendoza]

[Exterior night shot of de Soto's office as Victoria and three of the pirates go through the front door.]

Pirates
Now we'll get Big Jim out of here.  Big Jim!  We're here!

[Exterior night shot of the plaza as the blond-haired boy sneaks over to the cuartel.  He climbs up on something and looks through a window.]

[Shot from the boy's point of view of the pirates as they hold pistols at Victoria and Mendoza.]

Black Hat Pirate
Where's Big Jim?

Mendoza
Don't hurt her.

Black Hat Pirate
Talk or she dies.

Mendoza
The de la Vega hacienda, just outside of town.

[Exterior night shot of the cuartel as the boy moves away from the window.]

[Exterior night shot of the plaza as the pirates drag Mendoza and Victoria out of de Soto's office.  The pirates untie their horses.  The boy watches as their hoof beats fade away off camera.]

*****COMMERCIAL BREAK*****

[Exterior night shot of the cuartel yard as the blond-haired boy backs through the cuartel gates then closes them.  Sepulveda comes around a corner then stops.]

Boy [turning around and see Sepulveda]
Hurry!  The pirates are going to the de la Vega hacienda!

Sepulveda [as he comes up to the boy]
Pirates?  I'll get the sergeant.

Boy
No!  He's their hostage.  Get some men.  Hurry!

Sepulveda
Lancers!  Lancers!  To your horses!

[He runs back across the cuartel yard.  The boy goes through the gate and into the plaza.]

Don Alejandro [off camera]
You say a whale rammed your ship?

[Interior shot of the de la Vega hacienda dining room where Don Alejandro and Diego sit at opposite ends of the table as de Soto and Big Jim sit across from each other.]

Big Jim [first facing Diego then Don Alejandro]
Aye.  Four months later, dying of hunger and thirst, the first vessel to come along flew the skull and crossbones.  It was join her crew or be left to die. [De Soto rolls his eyes.] Really not much of a choice.  But, I, being the young man I was, kind of fancied the adventure.

[Diego and Don Alejandro smile then drink from their glasses.]

de Soto
Ah, what unmitigated tripe.  You're a bloodthirsty pirate, came to Los Angeles out of simple greed.

Big Jim
Truth is, I came here on personal business.

de Soto [laughing rudely]
Business. . .  Known as the treasure of Port-au-Prince no less.

Big Jim
Fact is there's no such treasure anywhere around here.

de Soto [not laughing now]
Señor, you've already said. . .

Big Jim
I said what I said to keep alive.  I knew you valued a treasure far more than the little pittance on my head.

de Soto
Well, if that's true. . .  You're still worth just as much dead.

[He bring the pistol out from under the table and aims it at Big Jim.  Suddenly, two gunshots break out window panes.  Big Jim, Don Alejandro, and de Soto all dive for the floor.  Diego slides down in his chair as more shots hit decorative plates hanging on the walls.]

[Exterior night shot of the de la Vega courtyard as the pirates, Victoria, and Mendoza stand outside.]

Black Hat Pirate
Set Captain Jarrett free!  Or we run the little lady though!

[Interior shot of the de la Vega dining room.]

Big Jim [as he gets up]
My mates have come for me! [he runs into the foyer as Felipe creeps up behind Don Alejandro as another gunshot breaks more glass.] Stop the shooting!  There'll be no killing!  Now straighten up and get in here!

[He opens the front door.  Victoria and Mendoza are pushed inside, followed by the pirates.  Victoria runs straight into Diego's arms.  Mendoza goes over and helps de Soto to his feet.]

de Soto [aiming his pistol at the pirates]
I'll shoot the first man who moves.

Big Jim [as he walks toward de Soto]
I guess that'll be me.  Then you can answer to them.

[The four pirates raise and cock their pistols, aiming them at de Soto.]

de Soto [lowering the pistol and holding up his left hand]
Uh. . .

[He bends down and sets the pistol on the floor then kicks it toward Big Jim.  Hoof beats are heard approaching off camera.  The pirates turn toward the door.]

[Exterior night shot of the de la Vega hacienda as several lancers ride up to the hacienda gate.]

Lancers
Whoa!  Whoa!  Whoa!

[They come to a halt outside the gate.]

Lancers [as they dismount]
Be careful now!

[Interior shot of the de la Vega hacienda as Eye Patch Pirate looks out the front door.]

Eye Patch Pirate
Captain!

[Gunshots are fired and more glass is broken.]

de Soto [as everyone crouches down]
Sergeant, tell the men we're in here with the prisoners!

[Mendoza runs toward the door.]

Voice [off camera]
Come out with your hands up!

[Another gunshot hits a pillar near Big Jim's hand causing Mendoza to fall onto his back.]

Mendoza
Madre de Dios!  Corporal Sepulveda is such a good shot!

Diego [to Don Alejandro]
Take Victoria to my quarters.  We'll go to the library.

[Diego hands Victoria over to Don Alejandro while Felipe moves toward Diego.  Gunshots continue to ring out, breaking decorative plates and window panes.]

[Exterior night shot of the de la Vega hacienda as the blond-haired boy crawls into an open window as more gunshots are heard off camera.]

[Interior shot of the de la Vega hacienda foyer as Big Jim stands over his crouching men and Mendoza, who cowers near Big Jim's feet.]

Big Jim [pointing to his right]
Cover the back of the house! [Two of the pirates get up and take off.] Go around the side!

[A third pirate takes off.]

Eye Patch Pirate
Aye, Captain.

[De Soto crawls over to hid behind a nearby pillar as more gunshot hit glass objects.  Mendoza crawls along on his belly then stops and touches his forehead.]

[Exterior night shot of the hidden cave exit as the hillside swings open then Zorro and Toronado ride out of it.]

[Exterior night shot of the de la Vega hacienda as the lancers load and fire their muskets. Zorro rides up behind them, holding out his coiled whip.]

Lancers [turning around]
Zorro?  Shoot!

[Zorro cracks his whip, coiling it around the barrel of the closest musket, then yanks it from the lancer's hands.  Zorro then unsheathes his sword.  The lancers start running away.]

Lancers
Oh, oh, oh, get out of the way!  Hurry up!  Hurry up!  Get away from me!

[Interior shot of the de la Vega hacienda dining room as de Soto kneels on the floor with his bottom in the air.  His pistol lies on the floor behind him and someone reaches down and picks it up.  De Soto tries to open a brown door.  Big Jim looks out a window as de Soto crawls over to where the pistol had been.  He looks up to see the blond-haired boy holding the pistol.]

de Soto [holding out his hand]
Give me that.

[The boy hits de Soto on the head with the pistol.  De Soto collapses onto the floor.  The boy walks past an incredulously Mendoza and up to Big Jim.  The boy points the pistol as Big Jim.]

Boy
I've been waiting to kill you. [Big Jim stares at him.] You must pay for killing my father.

Big Jim
I never killed anyone.

Boy
I've got the proof right here!

[He pulls out a piece of paper and hands it to Big Jim.]

Big Jim [turning the paper over in his hands]
I never had much schooling.  Sure wish I could read.

[The boy snatches back the paper.]

Boy
My mama wrote this.  She was dying.  It says my father was a hero.  That he would stand up to any man.  And then he was killed by a pirate they call Big Jim Jarrett!

Big Jim
Your mother told you that?  Was her name Bonafathia?

Boy [incredulous]
How. . .  How did you know that?

Big Jim [crouching down in front of the boy]
I knew your mother.

Boy
That's a lie!  She hated pirates!

Big Jim
That's why she ran away.  And she took my boy with her.  A little boy she named Pepe.

Pepe
My name is not Jarrett!

Big Jim
Your mother changed your name so you wouldn't grow up and be like me.  I tried to find her, and find you, but I couldn't.

[Zorro enters the dining room behind Mendoza and Pepe.]

Pepe [teary-eyed]
I don't believe you!

Zorro
Pepe! [Pepe turns around and sees Zorro.] Does a man risk his life for a lie?

Pepe
He can't be my father!

Big Jim
Then I guess I'm just your prisoner, Pepe.

Pepe
You. . .  You're not going to try and escape?

Zorro
A father who truly cares is the rarest of treasures.  Those soldier will be returning soon.  I must go.

[He goes off to his right.]

Big Jim
If we don't leave soon, you will be an orphan, Pepe.

Pepe
But you're a pirate!

Big Jim
Aye.  But I promise you, with your help and God's, I'll sail a straight course from now on.  I'd just like a chance at being a father.

[Pepe lowers the pistol and Big Jim hugs him.  Mendoza, still sitting on the floor, smiles.]

******COMMERCIAL BREAK*****

[Interior shot of the de la Vega hacienda foyer as Diego and Felipe stand at the entrance of the library.  De Soto clutches his head while Mendoza stands behind him.]

Diego
Sergeant!

[Mendoza turns to face Diego.  The pirates walk into the foyer.]

Black Hat Pirate
Those soldiers scattered like pelicans in a squall.

Victoria [as she and Don Alejandro enter the foyer]
Well, they were no match for Zorro.

Diego
Zorro was here?

Don Alejandro
What's going on?  What is all of this?

Pepe [as Big Jim stands behind him with his hands on Pepe's shoulders]
I found my father, Don Alejandro.

Black Hat Pirate
We came here for the treasure of Port-au-Prince, not some kid.

Big Jim
This isn't ‘some kid'.  This is my son.  And the treasure is still out there, waiting to be found.

de Soto [angrily]
You told me there wasn't any treasure.

Big Jim
I also told you how pirates have a knack for bending the truth.  She's out there for the taking, mates.  Good luck and Godspeed.

Eye Patch Pirate
Aren't you coming with us, Big Jim?

Black Hat Pirate
There'll be no coming back for ya.

Big Jim
Aye. [He pulls out a piece of paper from his waistband.] But you'll be needing this.

[He hands the paper to the Black Hat Pirate.]

Black Hat Pirate
The treasure map!  All right, let's go get it!

[The pirates turn and leave the hacienda.]

de Soto [angrily]
The treasure of Port-au-Prince is worth millions!  And you just gave away the map?

Big Jim [patting Pepe's shoulders]
This is all the treasure Big Jim Jarrett needs for now.  And remember what I said. . .about pirates and the truth?

de Soto
That map?  It was a fake?  You still have the real one?

Big Jim [tapping his right temple]
Right in here.

Don Alejandro
Captain Jarrett, you're not safe here.  Not once his lancers return.

de Soto
Oh, not to worry, Don Alejandro.  A man like this, a man with the key to something as valuable as the treasure of Port-au-Prince deserves a degree of clemency.

Diego
And what about the reward on his head?

de Soto
Oh, a mere pittance compared to the value of a new-found friend.

[He walks forward as Mendoza stares incredulously.]

de Soto [shaking Big Jim's hand]
Welcome to Los Angeles, Captain Jarrett. You know, I have a few questions.

[Big Jim bends down and picks up Pepe. De Soto and Big Jim, carrying Pepe, walk toward the front door.]

de Soto
I was always interested in pirates ever since I was a. . .

[Mendoza follows them out the front door.  Victoria, Don Alejandro, Felipe, and Diego all smile and shake their heads as they watch the others leave.]
