Mertens family was most likely Maria Catherine's and quite possibly John
Joseph's mother.

A Mathew Burgeois was also found in the 1855 Wisconsin State Census Fond du Lac Co Forest Township. According to the "History of Fond du Lac Co", a M Bourgeus opened the first store in Mt Calvary Fond du Lac Co Wisconsin. It is possible that these names all belong to the same person and that he was the brother of Barbara Bourgois. There was also a Barbara Bourgeous who was born in 1863 in Mt Calvary and died after 1919. She married Joseph Edward Schwalbe Jr 6 Apr 1891 in Mt Calvary. She was possibly another daughter of Matthias Bourgois.
